I was invited to Design, Illustrate, and Art-Direct every nook and cranny of this game in collaboration with IV.

We went through 3 iterations of the box art, exploring alternate LOGO's and information.



Ultimately, landing on prioritizing 'Legibility', with a bigger, bolder, less intricate white-lettering.


However, I spent MANY hours on all versions, and am proud of these Alternates.

⏥ BOARD

Each region was characterized by different climate/weather conditions, colors, and levels of DECAY.



Zac from IV wrote beautiful, detailed descriptions for me to build each region from.


SHATTERED WARD

Once the Queen's glittering capital, it now lies in ruin.

Collapsed spires and dust-choked avenues radiating from her shattered throne like ribs of a broken crown.


STONE GARDENS

Petrified blossoms stand frozen mid-bloom, their stone petals weeping black corrosive tears that whisper of the paradise these gardens once were.


COLLASSAL'S MARSH

Violet fog curls over mire and moss while half-buried stone giants slowly surface, their rune-scored skin said to hijack the minds of any who dare touch it.


FRAGMENTED FOREST

A crimson woodland crackles with cold blue fire, its sundered Frozen Pyre glowing sapphire at the core where the Queen's death split the great tree in two.


WEEPING CLIFFS

Waterfalls of molten light streak the towering escarpment, pooling as the Queen's "glimmering tears" in iridescent basins that gild the land below.

Colors for each region needed to be distinct, while complementing the players' palettes + assortment of random wood pieces.



This would prove to be the biggest challenge....after many rounds, we cracked it.


⚀ Expansion PACK

A Kickstarter pledge perk, this free expansion pack that adds 10 scoring cards and up to 3 new wooden pieces.



Another fun opportunity to play with an additional palette, moving into deep blues, playing off of the deep greens of the base game.



Player BOARDS

Similar to the 5 'Regions' - Each player board depicts a unique class of character, with different traits, goals, and starting rules.


In the Queen's absence, five ambitious houses have risen; each seeks the relics, each vows to rebuild the afterlife, and each quietly hopes to crown itself



the ARCHIVISTS

Custodians of the cracked Harmonium, they chart hidden routes, archive forgotten lore, and counsel rulers, believing the relic's wisdom can still be restored. Yet doubt shadows their ranks: some now trade secrets for gain, convinced the Realm may be beyond repair.


the REMNANTS

A fragmented and diverse group. They are not a unified faction but instead consist of smaller sects. each aligning themselves with specific shards of the crown. Despite their differences, they all revere the Shardcrown and seek to influence how power is distributed across the Realm.


the GUILDED

Ledger-keeping philosophers stamp every coin with the Ashen Scale, auditing trade to echo the Queen's lost balance. Idealists police exploitation, yet profiteers inside the order quietly tip the weights, turning justice into Leverage.


the VEILWARDENS

Veiled in ember-lined black steel, these lantern wardens roam the Realm's fringe, steering lost souls home and repelling the shadows beyond. Each follower they recruit sparks a fresh beacon, their dim light staking new ground against the dark.


the WATCHERS

Assassins and spies who live in the shadows, they sway each Reckoning with vision snatched from every mirror. Some in the group insist on open consent and public sightlines, while others dive through private glass without remorse.


✦ RELICS of POWER

5 game-altering relics, earned through strategic positioning.

When the Queen fell, the sacred instruments that once guided souls, balanced virtue, and bound the Realm in harmony hardened into five potent relics-still pulsing with her essence,


yet diminished and twisted by those who now wield them, lying scattered and waiting for a new bearer.



the SHARDCROWN

Forged from splinters of the Five Pillars, the crown's fractured gems still shift power across the land-but with every pulse it risks tearing one pillar bright while the rest go dark.


the SCALE

Its ash-stone plates once weighed virtue alone; now they tip for whoever piles the most coin, corrupting judgment into commerce.


the HARMONIUM

A cracked crystal sphere suspended in tarnished gold still sings of perfect paths, yet each note now diverges, luring seekers toward conflicting destinies.


the LENS

Once a flawless obsidian mirror that revealed every soul's true nature, it now acts as a dark periscope... its cracked surface linking to every mirror in the Realm, letting its bearer spy on any corner from the shadows.


the LANTERN

The eternal flame that once guided every wandering soul now burns faint, meant only for a select few... granting its bearer sway over who finds their way to the afterlife amidst the fog.

⌒ ICONS & FONT

A game with this depth faces a unique challenge of conveying mechanics simply, quickly, without getting in the way of playability & fun.


Our solution was to create a library of icons, to be universally understood at a glance, keeping gameplay moving.



Additionally, we created a custom font to better fit the brand and feel of the game, aptly titled 'RECKONING'.

🂡 CARDS

Multiple sets of cards, with different in-game functions, and multiple variants within each set - required systems thinking.

Repeatable card boarders / layouts / color systems, that allowed simple asset / icon swaps to fulfill all variants.


RECKONING CARDS

Reckoning Cards trigger high stakes bidding wars for the right to construct monuments and score.

ACTION CARDS

Collect resources, build your strategy.

MERC CARDS

The center of your drafted card provides resources: coins, acolytes, wardens, or mercenaries. These are the fuel you'll spend to win Reckonings, create monuments, or convert into points.


✸ VOTE Dials

During Reckonings, you bid your resources against opposing players to score.

The vote dial locks in the amount of resources you are willing to expend; the highest bidder takes all.

NASHVILLE ✈︎


During the launch of the Kickstarter, I flew out to Nashville to visit the IV team in-studio.

We ate spicy chicken, talked about games and collaboration, and filmed a podcast specifically about the art of the game. A career highlight.
